It is said that there was once a great city of Zwergen in the mountains of Major Descent from which their race can trace lineage. Whether this is true or some myth designed to give their people hope is unknown. Certainly, it serves the Kreisvolk to deny the rumour and keep the Zwergen as bonded serfs, bought and sold by the Edelmann to work their manufacturies, where their skills as smiths and engineers is renowned.
Zwergen are known to drink heavily, their natural endurance giving them a high tolerance for the pale ales they brew. This gives them the unfair stigma of being drunkards and their explosive tempers often result in fines that increase the terms of their indenture. Their long lives may give them hope of one day being free and tales of a free Zwergen who owns his own workshop are common.
